Roseberry Day 4

The Roseberry Festival was the closest thing we've had to a vacation in quite awhile. On Saturday morning, we drove the 15 miles to McCall to have breakfast at The Pancake House. As we pulled into McCall, we saw a large circus tent and, tethered right next to it, was this pair of elephants. It was pretty strange to see elephants in McCall so we had to get a closer look.

Turns out the circus was in town for one show only Saturday afternoon. . .

Gloria begged to go but, of course, we couldn't because of our festival. . .

Next thing I knew, Rob was chatting with someone from the circus and we were ushered into the circus tent for a private showing! Leave it to Rob. . . .

We saw the other animals up close and personal. . .

Next, we headed to The Pancake House for breakfast. The plate-size pancakes really are plate size!! Everything was delicious and we packed up more than half of our meals to take with us!

After breakfast we drove a few more miles to the lake. It was chilly enough that Zach and I had jackets on. That didn't stop Gloria from jumping right in and swimming to her hearts content.

She's never been afraid of a little cold water. . .

Our time eventually ran out and we headed back to Roseberry. Saturday turned out to be the toughest day for me of the festival. So far everyone had been very friendly and personable and I even made some new friends. Usually when we do events like this, most bands are very happy with what we provide and they quickly realize we are there to help them. This band pulled in around 3:00 in their big, fancy bus and the first thing they did was to completely undo my monitor board to plug everything into their own rig!! They brought an LD (lighting director), a FOH tech (front of house) and even their own monitor rack that they would be running!! This should be a good thing because it means I get to kick back and "enjoy" the show but it also means that we still have all the responsibility for the event without really having any control over it. Not that I'm a control freak or anything. . .

Anyway, I eventually got over it and just made friends with the opening band who still needed to use my 4 free channels. We were sound checked and ready by the time Frank kicked things off at 7:00.

The first group up was Assembly of Dust. Two very nice, very talented guys. This is another group I might even pay money to see!:

This is a Youtube video of Reid. He reminded me quite a bit of Gregg Koskela!

Gloria kept me company on the side of the stage:

The crowd really enjoyed the show:

I took this next picture at just the right moment. This is Rob and the FOH tech for the headlining band. He was great to work with once he realized Rob totally knew what he was doing and that we had decent equipment. I looked out at just the right moment and thought they looked so interesting together holding the same stance! Right after I took the picture, they moved.

The headlining bad was Hot Buttered Rum, a 5 piece string band from California.

I took a lot of pictures since I didn't have anything else to do. . .

Eventually, Rob didn't have anything to do either, so we walked down the road to see how far our little line array carried. . .

We could hear it very clearly from a long way off. . .

Everything went just fine with very few mishaps. All we had left to do was to take it all down. . . again. . .
