Roseberry Day 2

After a fairly good night's sleep at the hotel, we spent the morning and afternoon setting up audio and testing everything. Gloria was a big help even with her broken arm. . . yep, on the first set up day she fell while swinging on the truss and, since there was no swelling and the arm was completely mobile, we didn't find out until we got back to Boise that she has a buckle fracture in her right arm. . . I'll be expecting my Mother-of-the-Year Award any day now. . .
Everything turned out just beautiful:

The first evening is called "Locals Night" and consists of several bands performing very short sets with very little time in between for set up and sound check. Luckily we are used to flying by the seats of our pants so we managed to get through it without any problems.

Jimmy Bivens is pretty well known in the area and we have run sound for him before. His group was very laid back and easy to work with. They were also very talented and put on a great show.

The fiddle player was amazing.

The Hat Shop Band was a conglomeration of 7 stringed instruments. . . very interesting without a sound check. . .

Gloria stayed pretty active all weekend, so I'm trying not to feel too guilty about the broken arm thing. . .

This snazzy man in the hat and vest is Frank. He and his wife, Kathy, run the store behind the stage and they were very good and hospitable to us all week!

With so many different groups taking the stage during the evening, it's very helpful when the band members have good attitudes. This drummer was really great to work with. In all the confusion and lack of sound checks, I realized 3/4 of the way into his set that his monitor was muted!! He never complained once and was very happy when he could finally hear the rest of his band!!

The main act of the evening was the band Equaleyes. I guess the type of music they play is called modern folk but it was a mix of funk, techno and bluegrass all thrown together and they really got the crowd going.

The first evening was a great success! Everyone had fun and we set the tone for the rest of the weekend.
