Art Festival. . .

This was the post that held me up for so long.  Too many pictures, too many thoughts.  And now it's far enough in the past that it's not a big deal.  This is one of those events that has actually been enjoyable for me.  Laid back and easy.  And this was the last time . . .

We had another event on the evening of the second day of the Arts Fest- High Street at City Hall in Meridian.  Rob had stuff to do all weekend so I helped Kurt with the Art Fest and hired Jamie to help Rob at City Hall.  I just showed up part way through and listened.  This is a band worth listening to for sure. . .

Day Two of the Art Fest:

And. . . taking it all down.  I remember thinking when I took these last four pictures, that I wanted to remember how physically demanding this part of all of our events has been so that if I ever feel sentimental about it I can look at these pictures and feel relief that I don't have to do it anymore. . .

Since I'm posting this in retrospect on October 18th, I know that we had just two more set ups like this one and each was more difficult than the one before it.  So I guess you could say I will miss this particular event a teeny tiny bit but the back breaking tear downs will always, only make me shudder. . .

Miss, Won't Miss . . .

I invested a lot of time and energy into creating our retail space.  I enjoyed making the tags and learning about the products.  It was fun and interesting to bring in new product and arrange it neatly in the store.  It was the one area of life that I think I felt I had some control over.  It was usually pretty clean, there was an absence of chaos and I had product information at my finger tips thanks to Google.  This has been one of the hardest things to let go of.  My time and my energy feels wasted now although I know it wasn't because I learned so much.  Probably knowledge that I will never need but maybe not.  I will miss having a store. . .

I will NOT miss crawling through small, dusty spaces running speaker cable into the unknown. . .

Miss. Won't Miss.

So. . . rumor has it that I might be unemployed on October 1st.  By choice.  If you've read my blog since 2007, this probably won't surprise you.  This business is a lot of hard work.  A lot.  And I'm not getting any younger.  And my kids aren't getting any younger.  And I would like my life to revolve around something other than this business.  If anyone is reading this, I can hear you say, "You're just now figuring this out???"  I'm a little slow on the uptake.

So I've decided to do a series of posts called, "Miss / Won't Miss" as part of my process of letting go.  There are obviously things I will miss about this industry that I've been a part of for 10 plus years.  And there are plenty of things that I will NOT miss.  This should be interesting. . .

I will miss these girls.  They are my favorites.  Plus this event was at a sweet little winery on a beautiful day in May and I didn't have to contribute much.  Plenty to miss about this:

What I will NOT miss is working with "Big Names" for small pay.  Even when the pay isn't small, it's just a very stressful thing (to me) to jump through all the hoops and then feel responsible to all of the people who pay big bucks to come and see a perfect show.  The pressure is REAL!

This is Suzy Bog**uss.  (Her name is not a swear word, this just keeps Google from finding me!).  She was lovely to work with, the room is very familiar since we helped design it, and, all in all, it was a successful evening.  But I will not miss working with Nashville Recording Stars in the least.

And, that was helpful!!  And very therapeutic!!  I'll have to do this again for sure!
