Thursday, August 6th, Army Band in Homedale

We finally had the chance to hear our new Army band buddies in action on the first Thursday in August. We have built cases to protect their gear, ordered lots of new light and audio toys for them and exchanged audio stories with many of the guys in the band but we hadn't actually heard them play.

The original plan was to set up our stage and canopy and provide them with a full audio and light show. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate and we spent most of the day standing around the rodeo grounds in Homedale waiting to see what Mother Nature had in mind.

Late in the day, as we were running out of time to set up a full show, they decided to set up under the existing covered stage, and even then, we had a quick, last-minute kind of set up.

It was a long day but not a huge amount of work and it was fun to finally hear the band play. . .

This is TJ (Sergeant Gilbert to his men!). He comes to the shop often and we have gotten to know him pretty well. . .

We've told him stories about our fellow soundman/friend Ric and how he has been known to take a microphone away from someone who shouldn't be singing. So, when TJ hit a few bad notes on the key board, Kurt decided to unplug his keyboard and haul it off the stage!! We didn't actually do it but it would have been hilarious . . .

The band helped us pack out so I wasn't quite so tired at the end of the day. . . It was short-lived, though. . .
