BFC Back To School Party and The Train Depot

Rob and Dale successfully set up the stage in Caldwell this morning. We're all tired, but it's nice to know we have a stage available once again. I had the luxury of sleeping until 10:00 and then I continued to plug away on my never-ending to do list. One of the things I've been working on is a back-to-school party for the kids at church. Gloria's Sunday School teacher planned a great party and I got to be a support person. I like this so much better than being in charge! She planned a treasure hunt using balloons and stations to lead the kids on a merry chase around the church.

Each child, or team of children, was assigned a color and as they popped the corresponding balloon at each station, they found a note telling them which station to go to next. It was loud and chaotic, but everyone had fun.
The final note led them back to the fellowship hall where Jody told them the story about the Prodigal Son and the treasures he found.

My responsibilities were to bring pizza and Popsicles and to find helpers for crowd control. I called on my faithful crew of boys to help out. They look so lanky next to the little kids:

It was a fun party with a good turn out. Now I can cross something off of my list!!
While I was partying with the kids, Rob was setting up a show solo at the train depot. By the time I arrived around 8:00, the band was in full swing. It's the same band he ran last night at The Power House. Soul Purpose is a very fun 70's era disco band:

The kids and I wandered the grounds of the depot while listening to strains of Barry Manilow's Copacabana:

. . . Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha. . .

. . . And while she tried to be a star, Tony always tended bar
Across a crowded floor, they worked from 8 till 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?
. . . At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana
(here)At the Copa (CO!),
Copacabana
Music and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa....they fell in love. . .

. . . His name was Rico, he wore a diamond
He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancin' there
And when she finished, he called her over. . .

. . . But Rico went a bit too far, Tony sailed across the bar
And then the punches flew and chairs were smashed in two
There was blood and a single gun shot
But just who shot who?

. . . At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana
(here)At the Copa (CO!),
Copacabana
Music and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa....she lost her love. . .

. . . Her name is Lola, she was a showgirl
But that was 30 years ago, when they used to have a show
Now it's a disco, but not for Lola. . .

. . . Still in the dress she used to wear, faded feathers in her hair
She sits there so refined, and drinks herself half-blind
She lost her youth and she lost her Tony
Now she's lost her mind!

. . . At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana
(here)At the Copa (CO!),
Copacabana
Music and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa....don't fall in love. . .

That song will be stuck in my head for a few days!! The event ended at 10:00 and we were out of there by midnight. Rob's tired but he had a great time. We both have another early morning tomorrow- he's running sound out at Ste Chapelle and the kids and I have church. We're both looking forward to a quiet Monday after 5 back-to-back events in 4 days.
