Samuel School and Misc. . .

I'm still a bit behind and can't post the quiz trip pics until I clear my cache so here's a quick misc post of bits and pieces that I just might want to remember someday when I turn my blog into a book. . .

First and most importantly, Gloria went to her very first Samuel School (meaning, I don't think it will be her last) on October 7th with Ian, Gwen and Karla.  I took another road trip up to McCall to deliver the kids on a Friday.  The trip was short and sweet and would have been uneventful if only I hadn't decided to speed up too quickly on the way out of Horseshoe Bend.  Yep, I got pulled over for going 49 in a 35.  Thankfully, I got off with a warning!!  I believe that's called undeserved mercy!

Gloria had a great weekend, made some new friends and learned some important things in the process. . .

I love McCall. . .

I went to The Knitting Factory on Saturday afternoon (the 8th) for this event:

Andrew is doing some very cool things with his art and it was fun to see him displaying and selling it at the art show. . .

This next thing probably won't mean anything to anyone who doesn't play both Settlers of Catan (FUN board game) AND Resistance (Video game on the PS3) but it deserves a mention here anyway.  Zach plays a lot of Resistance.  A LOT.  I do NOT play Resistance and the one time I let him talk me into it, I failed miserably.  The only way I can describe it is to say it's kind of like Capture The Flag only with guns.  And blood.  In a deserted town with vehicles that you have to blow up.  With your guns.

Anyway, while Gloria was away at Samuel School, I told Zach I would play a game of Settlers of Catan (NOT Resistance) with him if he had time.  He said he had been thinking of a new way to set up the game that would be really fun so, in spite of my reservations when he alters my favorite game, I told him I would play it however he set it up.  It took him a very long time to get the board designed just how he wanted it and I noticed we were playing with the wagons so I was looking forward to a fun evening.  HOWEVER, he likes to alter the rules to fit his game board configurations and SOMETIMES it works out great.

This time wasn't one of those times.  I could tell right away that it wasn't going to be nearly as much fun as I had hoped.  In fact, it was really not fun at all.  It took me a little while to understand what his idea was but about 15 minutes into the game I realized what he had done:  He set up Catan (my favorite game) to mimic Resistance (NOT my favorite game!).  I'm a little competitive when it comes to games.  Maybe even a little more than a little competitive.  I'm bad at Resistance and even worse at Settlers of Resistance!  To say the least, I was not happy.  I was losing badly with very little hope of making a comeback.  The game lasted several hours (I'm no quitter!) and even improved a little bit but he won, hands down, in the end.  He may have ruined Catan for me forever. . .

I will say, in his defense, that if you like Capture the Flag and Resistance, this would be really fun.  His rules made sense and, once you figured it out, there was a lot of strategy involved but it just wasn't my cup of tea. . .

And, last but not least, this is Zach's latest drawing.  Look closely. . .
Sometimes I wonder about that boy. . .

In conclusion. . .

I love my kids. . .

The End.
