The Quiz Meet

We had a really good turn out at the quiz meet with 10 churches participating bringing 16 high school teams and 9 middle school teams. Boise Friends was packed out!

Zach still gets a little nervous before a meet and Andrew is, well, Andrew. . .

Stephi brought us fuzzy hats to go with our matching t-shirts. . .

We started out great with 5 wins in the first 5 rounds. . .
Morgan was our official mascot. She took pictures and carried my stuff around. AND cheered us on!!

By lunchtime we had won 6 rounds and lost 2. . .

Everyone on my team answered questions. . .

Surprisingly, Bible Quizzing can be pretty intense. . .

Good thing we don't take ourselves too seriously. . .

So many people came together to make this event possible. It takes a lot of work and a lot of food to feed all these quizzers!!!

Allison did an amazing job of rallying people to the task and everyone pulled together and even had fun!!
After lunch was the verse-off. Quizzers are given a list of verses in advance of the meet to memorize. Or not. There are a few who consistently learn all of the verses for every meet and Zach is one of them. This time there were 39 verses!!!

In the verse-off, quizzers are given the verses in random order and are eliminated when they miss a verse. The verses have to be word-perfect, so if a participant says "a" in place of "the", for instance, they are OUT! It's tough.

I'm always amazed that Zach can do this since I can barely remember my phone number. . .

After the verse-off, the afternoon quizzing rounds began. It didn't go so well.

It was a blast going up against the Newberg team. . .

. . . even though they beat us! Good job, Newberg!!!

Three cuties:

When all was said and done, we won 10 rounds and lost 7. It was a looong day.

After a little break to relax and unwind, the awards were given out. Andrew received a ribbon for placing 7th (out of about 70 quizzers!!):

Zach placed 6th!!:

Rob spent the day setting up our sound system for the evening activities. We brought in a group from NNU that were a lot of fun and entertained us for about an hour.

We also watched a movie with full surround sound until about 10:30. It was a very long day. But good! I was proud of my team and the way they pulled together. I was proud of all the teams and everyone that worked together to make this possible. I'm really looking forward to an exciting season!!
