Public Humiliation

There's just something about public humiliation that I'm averse to. This business we're in has great potential for it and I'm amazed we don't experience it more often. Most of it is all in my mind anyway as I imagine what people are thinking/saying. . . Tonight at Nampa Nights we were using borrowed equipment since all of ours is at the O'Connor Fieldhouse and we had glitch after glitch in the set-up. In the four summers that we have run Nampa Nights, we have only had a couple of late starts and it's never been more than 5 or 10 minutes, tops. Tonight we started almost 20 minutes late. That may seem like a small amount of time when you're just hanging out, but when you have a 7 piece band and a crowd of a couple hundred people with nothing to do but watch you sweat, 20 minutes feels like 5 hours!! Most of the band members were cool about it and our tried and true MC, Carl, gave plenty of extra announcements, but I spent the rest of the evening just trying to recover. . . hence, no pictures of the Fabulous Chancellors at Downtown Nampa Nights. . . It really wasn't as bad as all that and both the band and the event organizers still gave us kudos in the end, but it's not something I want to experience again anytime soon. The evening actually went by pretty quickly and we had everything packed away in the van and we were headed out to Caldwell by 9:00 p.m. These guys made me feel much better: Straight Away will be playing for the next three nights and it's fun to hang out with them.

Dale will run the monitor board tonight and Friday night and I'll take it over on Saturday.

I had to leave around 11:30 and poor Rob and Dale have to stay late here and get up very early for a stage and canopy set-up in the morning . . . it's going to be a long 4 days. . .
