Christmas Eve

We woke up to snow on Christmas Eve morning so the kids had fun building a snowman. He was kind of shrimpy, but oh, so cute:
We gave the pups an early Christmas present, mostly to prevent Lucy from eating my bedspread while we're away enjoying the family festivities. They were thrilled!

We spent the evening with my side of the family at my parent's house. Believe it or not, Rob doesn't start this:

He usually finishes it, though:

For the past several years we have had a white elephant gift exchange on Christmas eve. Everyone brings a gift. . . .

. . . and my mom reads a Christmas story that she has written that includes the words "right", "left" and "across" in plenty of places. (Example: The wisemen "left" their town and traveled "across" the desert to find the "right" place).

We all pass the packages to the left or right or across as she reads. When the story is over, we still have a chance to keep our gift or "steal" someone elses'. In the end, everyone gets what they want!!
We left my parent's house around 10:00 p.m. and headed home to make all of the last minute preparations for Christmas. We gave the kids strict instructions not to leave their rooms for any reasons so we could get ready for this:

Yep, Gloria is getting a drum set for Christmas. A few months ago we had someone pay us with this pretty white kit in leiu of money. In our line of work, bartering is alive and well! Gloria has shown an interest in playing drums for awhile, so we decided this would make a great Christmas gift. We also acquired a cool disco ball in much the same way, so this became part of Gloria's Christmas package. Rob can't seem to do things half-way, so he set up a sound system next to the drums so Gloria would have music to play along to and a microphone to sing into. She'll be so excited! Before we finally fell into bed around 1 a.m., we put the rest of the presents under the tree and filled the socks. I love this part of Christmas. . .
