We have been without a piano for some time now. We sold our good
Kawai electric baby grand a few winters ago to pay the bills and then we took care of Jeanie's upright piano while they were between houses but had to give it back several months ago. . . so we've been piano-less. There are so many reasons we need a piano. Zach has taken lessons for about 8 years and needs to practice, Gloria took lessons for one year and wasn't too impressed but needs to learn anyway, and I just try to keep up with Zach!! But the thing that I enjoy the most about having a piano is listening to Rob play late at night. He sits in the dark sometimes after the rest of us have gone to bed and plays songs like Amazing Grace and Great Is Thy Faithfulness while I drift off to sleep. I believe those are the times that he has his greatest connection with God. He doesn't use sheet music and he doesn't even really have to think about what he's playing. It just flows out of him. I love that about him and I'm so thankful that I get to benefit from it. So, I've really missed having a piano in the house. Amazingly enough, we had a piano just fall into our laps this week (not literally, thankfully). We have a show at the
Nampa Civic Center in February and when Rob gave them our bid, he half-jokingly said he'd trade the show for a piano that they were trying to sell. They took him seriously and with very little red tape, we are now the proud owners of a beautiful baby grand piano!!! The last of the papers were signed yesterday and we went out to pick it up. It's no mean feat to move a baby grand, but where there's a will, there's a way.
Another amazing thing that happened during this process is that a customer that we had sold a piano case to a year ago asked if we would buy it back from him at about an eighth of the cost. We took it back to use for parts but found out it fits this piano perfectly. Once we removed the pedals and the legs, it fit nice and snug in the case.
It took four of us to pack it up and load it in the truck:
At home, we called on the help of a couple of neighbors and Dale and managed to get it into my living room. Right in the
middle of my living room. It's huge!!! We finally decided to put it in the corner and move the furniture around it. I would keep it even if it meant getting rid of everything else in the room. It is absolutely beautiful:
