Details. . .

I'm really so very ready for this project to be finished.  It feels so never-ending right now and I'm becoming overwhelmed by the details.  Sure, the carpet is in, the walls are painted and the big stuff is done but now we have to add trim and outlet covers and clean windows and paint doors and move stuff back in and paint furniture and have a yard sale and . . .  and. . . the list doesn't seem to end. . . Sigh. . .

But on a positive note, the carpet is in and it's beautiful!

The carpet installers even fixed the big hole in my living room carpet that the dogs chewed up when it was two weeks new.  Now that makes me happy!!!

Happy Birthday, Shelly!!

We went to lunch today with my side of the family to celebrate my sister's birthday.   Happy birthday, Shelly!!  (I've been having way too much fun with the new editing software, Picnik!!):

Splash. . .

The first day of Spring Break started with our annual trip to the Downtown YMCA for a week of swimming lessons. . .

These two have been going to Splash since at least 2007.  They might have gone before that but I didn't blog before that so if they did it's forever lost to me!  Aren't they cute???

House Update. . .

I think maybe we are on the home stretch for this particular project.  Obviously we will have plenty to do when we begin again in the fall, but at some point we need to actually, you know, work.  Today we carpeted the garage.  Who does that??  On Tuesday the carpet installer will come and install the carpet in the family room and then some time between Friday and Monday of next week, Gloria's carpet will be in.  This picture is taken from in front of the garage door looking into the family room.  We will have full length drape hung between the two rooms so it won't seem like a garage.  Hopefully.

For now I'm enjoying the fact that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and am really looking forward to curling up on the couch in the family room and reading a book.  Except that Rob will take my book, put in a movie and make me sit in the exact spot where the freshly installed surround sound will surround me as the sub woofer in the corner twitches my eye lids. . .

The Girls. . .

Today was a long day.  I sang with my girls, went to a gallery opening, hung out at the mall and spent way too much time at Home Depot.  I'm pretty sure the mall is to blame for my weariness this evening.  More on all of that later. . .

10 State Road Trip, Part 4, Landscapes. . .

Zach put together a slide show of the Missouri trip but it's 20 minutes long and I haven't figured out yet how to put that large of a file on my blog.  I'm posting some of my favorite landscape pictures that he took on the trip.  Most of these pictures were taken in a moving vehicle, from the backseat, through a dirty window, with Grandpa's camera.  I did very little editing on them- mostly just a bit of cropping and brightening but that's it.  I like 'em.

Friends. . .

Traders and Barbarians. . .

Zach and I both really enjoy playing Settlers of Catan.  We've played all sorts of combinations- Cities and Knights, Seafarers. . . we've even mixed Catan with LOTR Risk.  Zach's really good at coming up with interesting combinations and he can usually talk me into playing.  The only problem is that Settlers takes a long time to set up and usually several hours to play.  This generally means that the game continues over several days because it's pretty rare for me to have a long stretch of uninterrupted time.  All that to say, my new favorite Settlers game is Traders and Barbarians.  It sets up quickly (if you use the standard board and 2-3 people are playing) and the points add up fast so it's over in about an hour.  Just like other Settlers games, there are many different combinations and configurations and Zach usually likes to really mix it up but this week we've played a couple of pretty simple games.  The first two pictures here are from the game we played last night- the Barbarian version (I'm red- the longest road!!) and the last picture is the Traders version.  We even convinced Rob to play the Barbarian version last night even though he would much rather play the basic Settlers of Catan without any bells and whistles.  He even seemed to be having fun.  Until I won.  :)

Memorabilia #19: Rock Candy. . .

I guess I don't really have much to say about the following pictures because it wasn't a very good time in my life but they are really funny, so I'll post them anyway.  Rob was in a band called Rock Candy in the late 80's, early 90's- they were actually pretty good.  I found this flyer in the attic a couple of weeks ago along with the pin.  I went to this advertised party at the Mardi Gras and I think there might be a video.  I won't be posting it.

I zoomed in a bit so you can see the bling on Rob's jacket.  Also so you can see how young he was!!

And that's all I have to say about that. . .

House Update. . .

We made a little bit of progress over the weekend. . .

There was a lot of painting going on . . .

But, I think it's safe to say we are finished with the pretty colors in Gloria's room.  Mostly.

Rob spent the entire day on Sunday working on the fine details of painting around the edges.  With two coats of paint!  Gloria was very grateful:

And also very glad to be done!!!

We still have to paint all of the trim and doors white and have the new carpet installed. . .

Yep, she's getting purple carpet.  We ordered it today and it should be here in less than a week.

As for the rest of the house. . .

The garage door installers finally came back on Saturday and finished installing the door which meant that Precious could shed her car cover and move back in:

AND. . . nothing new in the family room except that the shelves that I emptied and lovingly arranged my LOTR collection on keep getting messed with.  Every time I walk by I find a new configuration. . .

I'm really hoping that this project will be completed by the end of Spring Break.  Is that too much to hope for?????
