Quiz Meet #4, Last Meet of the 07-08 Season!!

On Friday morning, the BFC quiz team headed up to Hayden Lake on a chartered bus with MFC for the final quiz meet of the 2007-08 season.

We stopped at the McNary Dam near Umatilla to break up the 8 hour drive and to give the kids a chance to stretch their legs.

Gary left Boise about 2 hours after the bus and still caught up with us just as we pulled into Umatilla.

The whole BFC crew L to R: Corri, Andrew, Gloria, Gary, Zach, Steve, Alyssa and Jered:

Everyone that climbed this apparatus came off of it covered with silver paint:

We arrived in Hayden Lake around 8:00 and went to the home of our generous hosts, Keith and Jackie. They had a large, spacious home so the whole team was able to stay together. They even had enough beds for everyone so we were all quite comfortable while we were there. On Saturday morning, everyone woke up (too early!) in plenty of time for us to get ready and even take a walk to the nearby lake. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and it was nice to get a little exercise and fresh air before the meet.

The kids were all pretty confident in their knowledge of the material and I was a little more relaxed than usual, too. The rounds started out well and by lunch time we had won 6 out of 8 rounds.
We won all of our post-lunch rounds but they were tough and Zach almost erred-out (3 errors) on the two right after lunch which have notoriously been our worst ones. (He was somehow able to pull off a quiz-out every round (4 correct answers) resulting in Rob paying him $50 when he got home.) I think everyone had a good time, even on the tough rounds.

When all 15 rounds were over, everyone was invited to join in one of the many games that were offered. Most of us chose to play Bunco. It was a great way to get all of the teams to mingle and there was quite a bit of laughter going on!

The awards ceremony took place directly after dinner and we all took our places in the sanctuary. Talli was the sole survivor of the middle school verse off!! Yay, Talli!!

Once again, there were a handful of survivors in the high school verse off and Zach was one of them:

These are the top eight quizzers for meet 4 in the middle school division:

MFC won first place for meet 4 in the middle school division!! Go Meridian!!

The top 8 quizzers in the high school division for meet 4 (Zach recieved 2nd place!):

Boise Friends took 1st place for meet 4 in the high school division!!! I'm so proud. . .

At the last meet of the year, the accumulative scores are added up to determine over all winners for the season. They have the top eight quizzers in each division come forward for one final round. Talli finished in the top three over all for middle school! Great job, Talli!!

Zach was the third one to quiz out during the final round of the top 8 high school quizzers for the season:
I enjoyed watching these kids encourage each other. They are all very competitive, but they seem to really respect each other for their hard work and dedication.
Zach's hard work really paid off this year:

The Meridian middle school team won first place for the 2007-08 season and took home the trophy!!

Our team placed 2nd overall for the season in the high school division and everyone received a personal commemorative plaque as well as a larger one to hang up at church. Great job, team!!

We headed back to our host home after the meet, tired but happy. Jackie and Keith taught us a card game and we all relaxed and ate popcorn at the end of a very good day.

It was a good trip and a good season. I can't say that I'm sorry it's over because it was so time-consuming but it was a great experience and I'm sure by fall I'll be ready to do this again!! The kids are already making plans to study Luke over the summer and take home the trophy next year.

Congratulations to the BFC team! I know all of the dedication and hard work that has been put forward by the amazing coaches and kids. Our kids are such an inspiration to me and I feel lucky to know each and every one of them. I would never be able to accomplish the memorization that they have. Wow!
