Mock Quiz Meet. . .

In preparation for the quiz meet this weekend, we had a mock quiz meet tonight complete with an official Quiz Master and Score Keeper! Thanks Ken and Judy!

I think it was helpful to get the kids into quizzing mode before the actual meet. . .

They all took it fairly seriously. . .

Of course, everybody KNOWS Ken and Judy so it wasn't stressful or anything. . .

It was just VERY good practice to see just how prepared (or unprepared) we are. . .

Even Kristin and I took turns in the chair. . .

I think it's going to be a good meet. . .

In spite of the fact that we have to drive to Eugene and can't leave town until 1:30 p.m. . .

Not really looking forward to that part. . .

Having Ken and Judy there definitely gave a different feel to our practice. It was good. I wish they would come every week. . .

Everyone answered questions. . .

I think we just might be ready for this one. . .

After our quiz practice, we went to the gym for youth group. . .

I don't remember what it was called but we played some kind of soccer/relay game. . .

Zach and I had the same number on opposing sides so we had to play against each other. It was fun. . .

I think everyone had had a good time. . .

Anyway, on one hand, I'm looking forward to the Eugene quiz meet this weekend. On the other hand, I'm having a difficult time forgetting the last time we went in that direction to Metolious and it was dark and unfamiliar and rainy and I got a flat tire. This time will be better, I'm sure. Mostly because I'm planning to make sure the jack for my spare tire is in the truck before I leave. . .

This morning Rob went shopping for new soccer shoes. Now, if I needed new shoes, I would dash into Walmart or Payless Shoes and grab the nearest pair of shoes in my size that met my current shoe requirements (more or less). I might try them on, I might not. Rob, on the other hand, usually goes to several different stores and tries on dozens of pairs of shoes and then goes back to the first store before heading back to the last store to try on a dozen of the pairs of shoes again before finally making a decision. His mom took him shoe shopping once way back when we were first dating and I'm amazed that I still married him. It was an all-day ordeal!! I thought it would be fun to tag along but for someone who hates to shop and steers clear of the mall at all costs, it was torture. After that experience, we generally don't shop together. He has bigger and better fish to fry these days so he limits his shoe shopping and today he limited himself to just one store. Gloria, I'm afraid, has inherited the shopping gene from her father. She wanted to look at everything in the store and she was sure she needed new shoes. Gloria LOVES shoes. She really doesn't like to wear them, she just likes to possess them. She found several pairs in the store that she just couldn't live without.
Of course, mean old mom didn't give in to any of her pleas and justifications:
I really do feel sorry for her. . .

We had another soccer game tonight. Blame it on the new shoes, I guess, but we lost again.

The youth group went bowling tonight. I picked Zach up at the bowling alley and took a few pictures while they were finishing up:

Andrew Steve

Shawn Jered

Stephy Alyssa

It was fun watching everyone bowl. Zach rolled a strike just as I took his picture!!!

We had another soccer game tonight. The team has been pretty discouraged lately since we can't seem to win to save our lives and it really isn't very fun. However, tonight we played really well and although the team we played was really good, we still gave them a run for their money. We were up 3-0 for the first 5 minutes or so and then the rest of the game stayed neck and neck.

At half-time we were up 3-2:

All the players on our team were "on" tonight and it was a fun game to watch:

We did end up losing 7-9, but it was a well-played game!!

Gloria!

Zach!
